march 2006 skateboards for the elliott smith memorial fund, xiu xiu covers elliott, & la weekly ads thanks so much to don pendleton for taking the time to make some original and rare skateboard artwork available for fans to own and to help support the kids who benefit greatly from the elliott smith memorial fund and free arts! :) don is an artist (and a huge fan of elliott's) for element skateboards and has put up 3 auctions to help support elliott's fund and the free arts. don hand painted 37 decks for element to sell to smaller shops but don, element and umbrella market were kind enough to keep these 3 for the fund. 100% of all the proceeds will be going to the fund and these decks also comes with a numbered card of authenticity! don and element kindly did the same last year for the katrina relief. if you can please help us raise money for the elliott smith memorial fund by bidding on one, two or all three of these decks and support a wonderful organization like the free arts. thanks again to don for doing this and here are the links to the boards! ltd. painted element octopuss deck by don pendleton
for elliott smith memorial fund thanks to ash for posting a link to tiny mix tapes on the elliott smith livejournal page that xiu xiu is planning to cover elliott on a upcoming ep. tiny mix tapes says: "the ep will be packaged as both a 7" of two songs and a 3-song cd gatefold, with xiu xiu renditions of songs by elliott smith, nina simone, bauhaus, alex chilton/this mortal coil, and nedelle." the plan release for the ep is in may. we will for sure post any info about what song they cover and exact date of the release when more info comes out! finally, thanks to george for sharing this cool ad for the la weekly he saw in hollywood recently.here is what george posted: "i was in downtown la right where the oscars were being held. i looked up and saw a gigantic picture of elliott smith, right in hollywood. this really surprised me, so i snapped a photo of it. just figured some of you may be interested in seeing the photo." please click that picture of elliott on the left for a larger view! on sweetaddy is some information about an upcoming tribute/memorial
show in durham, nc at the duke coffeehouse. on april 15th, the prayers
and tears of arthur digby sellers, amongst others, will be playing to
raise money for the elliott smith memorial fund. if you live in the
durham area, or plan on being there, you should check out this site
